Nunthorpe School uniform

The school uniform has been selected with a number of factors in mind.

School uniform requirements

Quality

The business jacket is a high quality, washable garment. It has the added feature of a variety of pockets that will present their usefulness to students within a few hours of wearing – not least of which is the mobile phone pocket!

Modesty

The trousers are prescribed for both boys and girls in order that we can remove the variety in ‘fashion’ especially amongst the ladies. Students are expected to have trousers that can facilitate a shirt tucking into them and a shirt that is not fitted, has a top button and tucks into the trousers.

Image

It is important to us that not only are our students friendly, polite, pleasant young adults, but that they are also perceived as such in the community. We believe that the image of a school and its students can be strongly enhanced by the uniform they wear. Thus, we also insist that socks are both plain and either black or white in colour; and that tights are plain and black.

Jewellery

Acceptable jewellery to be worn at Nunthorpe School:

  • Small plain metal stud in each ear;
  • Watch;
  • ‘Charity Bands’ – Students are allowed to wear up to 5 – which are clearly labelled with a Charity name. They can wear a total of 5 – not 5 on each arm.

Inappropriate jewellery at Nunthorpe School:

  • Necklaces;
  • Bracelets;
  • Rings;
  • Large ‘diamante’ studs;
  • More than one pair of studs;
  • Facial piercings of any description.

Outdoor Coats

During colder weather, a plain outdoor coat can be worn to and from school. The coat should be able to fit our school business jacket underneath it at all times. The coat should be logo free and as plain as possible.

AT ALL TIMES, the following garments are NOT permitted in school:

  • Hooded tops;
  • Sweatshirts;
  • Non-uniform sports tops/jackets.

    Empowering Parents – the Delights and the Perils of Teenage Social Networking!

    An increasing number of parents have approached us in recent months seeking information, help and support as they become more familiar with internet based social networking sites. These sites are an everyday feature of most adolescent lives in our technology rich 21st century world – made all the more possible by handheld portable devices (web-enabled smart phones etc.) so that sitting at a computer terminal to access the sites is no longer necessary.

    It is perhaps obvious to state that a significant number of our parents are concerned about the potential dangers of social networking for their sons and daughters. Whilst they can see (as can our school) the potentially great benefits for young people of such technology, they also appreciate its possible risks – especially in the areas of ‘cyber bullying’ and ‘cyber grooming’.
